What the screen means when it refuses you · Nigeria

Terminals refuse in a small, fixed vocabulary. Each phrase points at one box, one number or one clock — never at a general failure. This page takes the wordings one at a time and gives each the same three lines: what it is saying, what to check, what to change.

Copy the message before doing anything else. Entries below are distinguishable from their neighbours by two or three words, and a paraphrase loses exactly those words. «Not enough money» and «Invalid volume» are one letter apart in feeling and a whole page apart in cause.

How to use the decoder

Find the wording, read the three lines, change the one box named. If the message does not appear here, it belongs to the account rather than the ticket — take it to the report page with its timestamp attached. Wordings differ slightly between MT4, MT5, the browser terminal and the phone app; the meanings do not.

Group A

Refusals about the size box

«Invalid volume» / «Invalid lots amount»

Saying: the number in the size box is not one the instrument accepts. Check: the smallest step, the smallest size and the largest size in the instrument specification. Change: the volume box, to a value on the step — not a value between two steps.

«Not enough money» / «No money»

Saying: free margin does not cover this order, whatever the balance says. Check: the free-margin figure, not the balance, and whether an open position is holding part of it. Change: the size down, or close something first.

«Trade volume limit reached»

Saying: the total already open on this instrument has hit a ceiling. Check: the sum of your open positions on that symbol, not just the new order. Change: reduce elsewhere before adding here.

Group B

Refusals about the exit levels

«Invalid S/L or T/P»

Saying: a stop or a target sits too close to the current price, or on the wrong side of it. Check: the minimum distance in the specification, and which direction the position runs. Change: move the level further out; a stop above the price on a buy is the classic version of this one.

«Invalid price» on a pending order

Saying: the level you asked to wait at is not valid for the order type chosen. Check: whether you picked a limit or a stop, and whether the level sits above or below the market. Change: the order type, more often than the level.

«Modification denied» / «Position not found»

Saying: the thing being edited no longer exists in the state the terminal remembers. Check: the history — the position may have closed while the dialogue was open. Change: refresh the list and read the closed row before re-sending anything.

Group C

Refusals about the clock

«Market closed»

Saying: this instrument is outside its session right now. Check: the session in the specification against the platform’s server clock, not your local one. Change: nothing — wait, or leave a pending order. Closed, not broken.

«Off quotes»

Saying: no usable price is available for that order at this instant. Check: whether quotes are still updating at all, and whether this is a thin hour or a changeover minute. Change: wait for the feed to settle rather than clicking repeatedly.

«Requote»

Saying: the price moved between your click and its arrival, and confirmation is being asked for. Check: the new price offered, not the old one you had in mind. Change: accept or refuse deliberately; treating a requote as a bug is how the same click gets sent three times.

Group D

Refusals about who you are

«Invalid account»

Saying: the account number, the platform password or the server does not match. Check: that the server was picked from the list rather than typed, and that this is the platform password, not the Personal Area one. Change: one field at a time, starting with the server.

«Authorisation failed» / «No connection»

Saying: the terminal never reached the server, so nothing about the account is known yet. Check: the same sign-in from a second device. Change: the device or the network if the second one works. Whose side it sits on.

«Trade disabled» / «Trade is disabled»

Saying: this account may not place that order — a state of the account rather than of the ticket. Check: whether you are signed in to an investor-style read-only login, and whether verification is complete. Change: the login used, then ask support if it persists. Refused sign-ups.

«Account disabled» / «Account is read only»

Saying: the account exists but is not accepting instructions. Check: your email for a message about verification or a required confirmation. Change: nothing in the terminal; this one is a support matter from the first minute.

Group E

Words that are not refusals but are read as ones

«Margin call» and «Stop out»

Saying: the account has reached the level where positions are at risk of being closed, or has already had one closed. Check: the margin-level percentage and the history rows. Change: the size of what is open. Protection that did not protect.

«Pending» on a withdrawal

Saying: the request exists and is moving through its stages. Check: the stage shown inside the request itself. Change: nothing, and do not send a second request — two pending requests are slower than one. Money that has not arrived.

«Swap» on an untouched position

Saying: the position was carried past the daily changeover and adjusted for it. Check: the instrument specification, which shows the figure in advance. Change: whether you hold overnight at all. The moving parts.

«Balance», «Equity», «Free margin»

Saying: three different numbers that beginners read as one. Balance ignores open positions, equity includes them, free margin is what a new order is measured against. Check: which of the three the message referred to. Change: the habit of reading the top figure only.

Wordings vary between platform versions; the meanings above describe the standard behaviour and are not a substitute for the message in your own terminal.

Two messages this page deliberately does not decode

  • A message you retyped from memory. Half the meaning lives in the exact words, and a remembered version is a different message. Screenshot first, decode second.
  • A message from software that is not the platform. Anything arriving by chat or email that asks for a password or a payment is outside this vocabulary entirely, and no entry here should be read as validating it.
